South Australia offers a fantastic array of places to discover, experience and enjoy – all easily accessible from Adelaide and Adelaide Luxury Beach House. Drive yourself or sit back and let someone else do the driving on one or a series of day tours to the Adelaide Regions. Adelaide’s famous wine and wildlife regions are between 40 minutes to 1 hour from the beach house including the legendary Barossa Valley wine region in the north, the Adelaide Hills in the East and Mclaren Vale and Victor Harbour on the Fleurieu Peninsula in the south. South Australia’s scenic wine region, the Barossa valley has an international reputation for quality wine and is arguably the best wine producing region in Australia. It’s home to the some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world dating back to the 1840’s. Whilst Shiraz is Barossa’s star performer, other stunning red, white, sparkling and fortified wines are produced. Tour and taste some of the Barossa’s most famous wines and produce, become a winemaker for the day at Penfolds and blend your own wine to take home, enjoy lunch in a chateau and visit Maggi Beer’s famous picturesque farm shop
The Barossa, is just an hour’s drive north from the beach house
From the terrace and one of the bedrooms of the beach house, face east and experience beautiful sunrises and views to the Adelaide Hills. Within 30 minutes drive, you’ll be in the heart of one of Australia’s most beautiful wine regions, producing a great variety of mainly white wines At Mt. Lofty Summit stop for spectacular views to Adelaide and the sea, picnic or hike through Belair National park, where you are likely to see wild koalas and kangaroos. Visit historic Hahndorf, and explore quaint shops, tearooms and The Cedars, the house of the famous Australian landscape artist Sir Hans Heysen. Stop at nearby Cleland Wildlife Park where all of the animals that are unique to Australia are in natural settings. You can get up close, pet & feed the different animals including koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, tasmanian devils and interact with many of them, .From May to October pick strawberries at Beerenberg farm.
Gaze south from the terrace and you have views of the Fleurieu Peninsula and on clear days you can see Kangaroo Island. McLaren Vale on the Fleurieu Peninsula is nestled between the Mount Lofty Ranges and the Gulf of St Vincent and is around 40 minutes drive from the beach house. It offers exceptional red and white wines and regional produce all set amongst rolling vineyards, a rugged coastline and a charming collection of villages. Try some wine in one of the many wineries and enjoy lunch perched high on the cliffs at Port Willunga.
At Victor Harbor, experience a spectacular ocean adventure in an expedition-style rigid inflatable boat. Dolphin and seal watching is possible on most tours year round and whale watching tours run June to September. The tour is around 90 minutes, so breakfast at the beach house, be exhilarated on this tour and return for lunch, if you wish, or linger longer. The Southern Wright Whales are often seen very close to shore with their calf’s, so picnic on the shore at Victor Harbor and watch in awe as these giants of the sea, frolic in the ocean.
Kangaroo Island is an iconic destination, two hours’ drive and a short ferry ride south of Adelaide.
Tour operators offer a number of options for day tours to the island, including bus and ferry or a short flight form Adelaide and bus tour. Share the beach with a colony of wild Australian sea lions basking on the beach at Seal Bay Conservation Park. Admire wild beauty at Flinders Chase National Park and follow the rugged southern coastline on a walk to Remarkable Rocks, Watch the waves crash onto the rocks at Admirals Arch and spot playful New Zealand fur seals in this amazing natural nursery. Flinders Chase National Park is also a sanctuary for kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, echidnas and other native wildlife
River Murray and Monarto Zoo
To experience an open range wildlife safari set off to Monarto Zoo, a 1000 hectare open range wildlife sanctuary. Monarto Zoo is home to lions, hyenas, giraffes, chimps, rhinoceros, cheetahs, and many rare and endangered native Australian wildlife. Get close to these animals as they roam or take a behind the scenes tour, including assisting the keeper with calling the lions to their night quarters and feeding them.
Explore the magnificent River Murray, and gain an insight into this unique river system. Take in the spectacular views with lunch and a cruise onboard the ‘Proud Mary ,meander past magnificent orange sandstone cliffs, weeping willows & huge red river gums, historic old homesteads and breathtaking wetlands teeming with birdlife.
The River Murray cruise and Monarto Zoo are each around 90 drive minutes from the beach house.
